My second Shameless attempt at fictional journalism

So here's my second attempt at trying to finding a story from this weeks episode of the fictional TV show Shameless for the fictional newspapers the Chatsworth Gazette.

Hoax terror links to local driving school.
By Josh Francis

A local driving school premises were raided yesterday by anti-terror police on the Chatsoworth estate after an anonymous tip off claiming the driving school was a terror training cell.

Officers raided the school's premises which is also used as a local convince store and made 16 arrests of mostly young teens found to be consuming alcohol.

After sixteen hours of questioning all the suspects were realised after insufficient evidence was found linking them to terrorist activities however several charges were pressed against driving instructor Chesney Karib for supplying alcohol to minors.

Mr Karib has since announced he would be shutting down his driving school after students revealed lessons were of a poor standard and majority of their time was dedicated towards studying text books whilst consuming drinks and drugs.

Local Mimi Maguire was among many residents on the estate to be complaining about Karib's driving lessons. "His students were totally out of control and constantly mounting the curb, it's bad enough I had my mobile scooter damaged because of dangerous driving. His students were a menace".

A police spokesman said "After receiving a tip off concerning Mr Karib's driving school being the front for a terror cell we have come to the conclusion these accusations were false. However were are investigating the legitimacy of Mr Karib's driving instructing qualifications and accusations of supplying alcohol to minors."

In the style of imagination land (AKA Chatsworth Gazette)

So today we had another journalistic mind bomb dropped upon us through the media of TV. Today we watched a show I always glazed over called Shameless surrounding the funny goings of a working class council estate in Manchester called Chapsworth. While watching we had to pick out from the story newsworthy stories which could go in the local paper. Below is mine.

Complaints against a struggling convenience shop had been made after allegation of a sex line being ran from the business causing havoc and offence for customers over the past week.

Customers claimed that while being served they were subject to till assistants describing sexual activities over the phone to clients through the use of crude and sexually disturbing imagery.

One local 19 year old local mother with three children found the talk to be "right disgusting and messing with her kid's heads".

The local secondary school is also looking into further action against the shop and hot line after students who went to the shop in their lunchtimes began to behave in a appropriate manner after hearing the crude descriptions of erotic behaviour whilst being served.

Mickey Masters a parent of two amid friends with the shop owner has also took it on himself to end to the controversy single handily. "These people need help so I've volunteered to stay on the sex line 24/7 and persuade these people to stop this. I don't care how long it takes or even how stubborn they are, I wont rest until I've spent my time on the phone to them."

Frank Gallagher who is regular at the shop seemed to stunned to pass comment over the situation, responding with disgust and shocked muttering at what was happening. The local council have been informed and a formal investigation has begun in a bid to have the phone line shut down.

Why do I have to promote myself as a brand ?

What up my fellow blog observing enthuasists ?

It's been a few weeks since my last post and it's felt a lot longer so I decided to write down so angry compliants in a constructive manner.

So as you probably know I'm a trainee first year journalist. What I've learnt since I've begun is confidence is certainly key and of course skills..and the other thing. What I've found during the lecturers and glances of freelance journalists is one thing, it seems to get anywhere in this industry is you have to arrogant and a (shameful) self promoter and these are just two qualities I really don't want to pick up, just like rickets or scurvy.

I like to think I'm a modest guy and I hate blowing my trumpet (mainly since I don't have one) and the idea of going around saying (in a dramatised fashion) "Hey I'm totally brilliant, I'm so super amazing and better then everyone", I've spent a majority of my life being put down by people like this and don't want to put anyone in a situation like that.

It just feel likes I've got a needless ruthless edge I don't need, I know as a journalist we need to advertise our skills but I prefer to let my (well mainly the best ones, which maybe aren't many) work do that talking, and not my attention hungry ego.

Confidence is good but it's difficult to keep in check before it becomes shear arrogance. I've always found arrogance is the main ingredient in major downfalls, something which has happened to me when I've over stepped the mark and to over people and it's tends to be a cruel reality check tasting a lot like bland chicken mixed with nasty stuff.

I just don't what to wind like an over confident editor who's basically hated and has no passion for their job but is just more interested in boosting their ego's that little more.

OK this post may have been slightly motivated by jealousy and irritation that I've found some of these arrogant individuals (with media experience and not) tend to be the ones that win the metaphorical day as if their some glorified Superman/woman individual whilst I'm the hideous bad guy who gets nothing. However with the ever changing landscape of comics and the representation of heroes and villains changing you never know that hideous (but compelling pretty in a morbid manner) chap may just prevail all justice style and all..
